STATUS: IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THIS JULY, HEALTH CAREERS LIVE RETURNS WITH THE AWARD-WINNING VIRTUAL HEALTH CAREERS CONFERENCE

This July, Health Careers Live returns with the Award-Winning Virtual Health Careers Conference

Thousands of current and future healthcare workers – representing the more than 350 different NHS roles available today – will be attending the Virtual Health Careers Conference this weekend to support them with their health careers.

Health Careers Live, the UK’s leading programme for aspiring and current healthcare professionals, brings back the parliamentary award-winning Virtual Health Careers Conference. Following its success in 2020, the conference will return for 10th and 11th July 2021.

The conference comes less than a week after the NHS called on the public to consider taking up a role in the NHS.

The Health Careers Live team will hold five conferences across 2021 in varied hybrid formats, depending on local restrictions in the UK and in two other global locations. All Health Careers Live conferences are free to attend and can be accessed via: www.healthcareers.live

Professor Mark Radford, Chief Nurse, Health Education England, and Deputy Chief Nursing Officer for England said “This past year health care workers have risen to one of the biggest challenges this country has ever faced and a spotlight has been shone on the incredible work of people across the health and care system. Health Careers Live does innovative work highlighting the opportunities that a career in health can bring to people, whether clinical or non-clinical. These sessions are a fantastic way of showcasing the breadth of careers on offer in our workforce.”

The volunteer led initiative the National Health Careers Conference, established in 2017 in Trafford, the birthplace of the NHS, is led by a team of healthcare students, professionals, patients, advisors and stakeholders that are passionate about widening participation in healthcare, as well as supporting individuals from all backgrounds to build fulfilling health careers, ultimately contributing to improved patient care.

In 2020, the coronavirus pandemic impacted people’s lives on a global scale with rolling lockdowns, social distancing, and unprecedented strain on national health systems. The House of Commons Health and Social Care Committee recently reported widespread burnout in today’s NHS and the negative consequences for the mental health of individual staff, impacting on their colleagues, the patients and service users they care for.

Dr Rajiv Sethi, Junior Doctor and, Founder, Health Careers Live said: “As Europe’s largest employer with over 350 careers available in the NHS, the work of Health Careers Live is more important than ever.  The NHS and health systems around the world are facing unprecedented challenges, these can be tackled by sharing knowledge and supporting those that care for us.

In a bid to showcase the opportunities available and to shine a light on the variety and depth of experiences and professions to choose from, in 2020 Health Careers Live brought together some of the UK’s leading experts in healthcare for the Virtual Health Careers Conference (July 2020) and National Health Careers Conference (November 2020).

The conferences have since been nominated for the Health Equalities Award at the NHS Parliamentary Awards for their lasting impact with the 2020 programme having 6000+ registered attendees with social interaction of over 3.5 million across 101 countries.

The upcoming Virtual Health Careers Conference 2021 weekend is made up of two focused conferences tailored to the needs of aspiring and current healthcare professionals. There will be inspiring sessions from healthcare leaders, students and patients discussing topics such as ‘Leading Change in Health and Care’, ‘Finding Your Why’, ‘Nursing the NHS’, ‘The Future of Medicine’ ‘Tackling Long Covid’, ‘Digital health’ and ‘Walking for Patient Safety’.

“This year will see the national and global health community gather to support each other as well as future colleagues. With support from our partners including Health Education England, the General Medical Council, Higher Education Institutions and professional associations, we know aspiring and current healthcare professionals will be supported to discover and lead fulfilling health careers, ultimately contributing to improved patient care”

“We are delighted to support the event at what is a critical time for healthcare. Now more than ever, healthcare professionals need our collective support. We’re looking forward to conversations about wellbeing, sharing our work on induction for international colleagues and discussing how we work together to tackle healthcare inequalities – for professionals and the public.”

Head of Outreach Operations, General Medical Council (GMC)

“We are delighted to be supporting the event and bringing two days of action from the AHP Live Stage in partnership with On the Frontline NHS AHPs. We have over 40 AHP students, frontline healthcare professionals, academics and educators volunteering their time as AHP Career Ambassadors to share their lived experience and top tips with anyone exploring career options across health and social care inclusive of support worker roles through to advanced practitioners”.
Carrie Biddle
Regional Head of Allied Health Professionals (AHP) South West from Health Education England
